24/ Parkinson's Care Association beefs up efforts to fight disease

Amman, April 10 (Petra) - On the occasion of World Parkinson's Day, which falls Friday, Parkinson's Care Association-Jordan called for raising community awareness on the disease, promoting early diagnosis, and supporting efforts to establish a "comprehensive and specialized" medical center for this purpose in Jordan.

In a statement on Thursday, the association affirmed no current medical therapies are avialble for the disease, as medications are used only to alleviate symptoms.

Early diagnosis under clinical testing by specialized neurologists in movement disorders remains the "best" option for controlling the disease progression, despite the limited avialable surgeries in this context, the statement said.

The association advised people over 50 to consult a neurologist twice a year, as a preventative measure, highlighting the importance of education and psychological and social support for Parkinson's patients to face challenges and increase their adaptation.

Since its inception, the association's efforts have been "rapid and continuous," focusing on awareness, education, and steps to facilitating access to "appropriate" treatment services.

To achieve its vision, the association pinned hope to launch an "effective" partnership with the Kingdom's public and private sectors, civil society, and international organizations.

This effort, it stated, aims to establish a "specialized" hub dedicated to improve life quality of Parkinson's patients, which would serve as a "scientific" medical beacon in the region.
