5/ Momani: Jordan Deepens Diplomatic Drive to Safeguard Jerusalem’s Arab Identity, Champion Palestinian Rights
Amman, April 10 (Petra) -- Jordan is intensifying its diplomatic campaign to preserve the Arab character of Jerusalem and protect its Islamic and Christian holy sites, Minister of Government Communications and official spokesperson Mohammad Momani said on Wednesday. In a televised interview with Al-Mamlaka, Momani described the recent UNESCO resolution recognizing the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls as part of the Occupied Palestinian Territories as a culmination of Jordan’s persistent diplomatic efforts. These efforts, he said, are rooted in a deep national commitment to defending Jerusalem’s Arab identity and affirming its rightful place as the capital of a future Palestinian state. "This resolution stands as a powerful testament to the international community’s recognition of Jerusalem’s Arab heritage and a resounding endorsement of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights," Momani stated. "Jordan, as ever, views Jerusalem as inseparable from the cultural and spiritual fabric of the Arab and Islamic world." He hailed the move as a pivotal diplomatic achievement, one that reinforces Jordan’s central role as a staunch advocate of Palestinian rights and marks a turning point in the broader struggle for justice in the region. "Jordan will remain a constant and unwavering voice in defense of Jerusalem," he affirmed, emphasizing the Kingdom’s dedication to strengthening alliances with Arab and international partners in pursuit of a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace one that guarantees the Palestinian people their right to statehood, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Momani warned against attempts to distort or distract from Jordan’s principled position, arguing that such efforts serve only those who wish to perpetuate Palestinian suffering and undermine regional stability. Under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, he added, Jordan will persist in its steadfast support of the Palestinian people and their struggle for self-determination and national sovereignty. "The Kingdom’s unwavering stance is a source of pride for every Jordanian," he said. "It reflects not only our diplomatic posture, but our deep-rooted moral and historical commitment to the Palestinian cause." Momani underscored that this support transcends political rhetoric. "It is grounded in enduring historical, cultural, and humanitarian bonds between the Jordanian and Palestinian peoples," he said. "Jordan will continue to lead regional and international efforts to secure a just peace and to ensure the preservation of Palestinian identity and cultural heritage." He urged Jordanians to unite behind this national mission, calling on all sectors of society to contribute to the collective effort to stand with Palestine diplomatically, humanely, and morally. Momani also stressed that any attempt to undermine national unity or target state institutions is unacceptable, warning that such actions divert attention from the Kingdom’s core cause: the support and advancement of Palestinian rights. National cohesion, he noted, is essential to sustaining Jordan’s moral leadership. "This is a shared responsibility that demands vigilance, solidarity, and a clear-eyed commitment to the values we hold dear." He called for strengthening internal cooperation, saying that a unified Jordanian stance is vital to conveying a strong, consistent message to the world in support of the Palestinian narrative. "Let us hold fast to our national and social values," Momani urged. "Let us be guardians of the principles that bind us. Our strength lies in our unity, and supporting Palestine is not merely a matter of foreign policy; it is a national duty, woven into the fabric of who we are." He emphasized that a stable, confident Jordan is best positioned to assist the Palestinian people in navigating today’s escalating challenges. The Kingdom’s political stability and social cohesion, he said, empower it to play a leading role in engaging with regional and global affairs, particularly those concerning the Palestinian cause. Jordan’s historic role, Momani continued, underscores the profound brotherhood and shared destiny that link Jordanians and Palestinians. The dire challenges confronting Palestinians, he said, require an urgent, multifaceted response, humanitarian, political, and diplomatic alike. "Now, more than ever, we must rally around our nation and its foundational principles," he said, underlining that national unity is the cornerstone of Jordan’s resilience and its ability to face whatever lies ahead. Momani concluded by highlighting the importance of building a strong, aware, and cohesive society - one capable of advocating for the Palestinian cause with both clarity and conviction. "Our unity and solidarity," he said, "are the path toward achieving shared goals and laying the groundwork for peace and stability throughout the region." //Petra// AA
