39/ WHO chief warns of cuts, layoffs due to U.S. funding shortfall
Amman, April 22 (Petra) – World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Tuesday the agency will be forced to scale back operations and lay off staff due to a significant funding gap following a reduction in U.S. financial support. Tedros told member states that "the failure of the United States to pay its assessed contributions for 2024 and 2025, along with cuts in official development assistance from some other countries, means we are facing a salary funding gap of between $560 million and $650 million for the 2026-2027 period." //Petra// AF
