53/ Senate Head meets delegation of US Congressional aides

Amman, April 23 (Petra) – Senate President Faisal Fayez met on Wednesday with a delegation of US Congressional aides to discuss Jordanian-US ties and the situation in the region.

During the meeting, which was attended by Senator Ali Al-Ayed, Rapporteur of the Senate Committee on Arab, International and Expatriates Affairs, Fayez reaffirmed the strong relations between the two countries and Jordan's keenness on advancing them in various fields and building more economic and investment partnerships.

The head of the Senate pointed to Jordan's comprehensive reform scheme in its political, economic, and administrative tracks, and reviewed economic and security challenges posed to the Kingdom by regional conflicts.

He valued US aid to Jordan to enable it overcome economic challenges, urging a reconsideration of tariffs that were recently imposed by the US administration on Jordan.

Fayez also called for reversing a decision to halt aid by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to Jordan, particularly in the fields of health, education, and women and youth empowerment, to enable it to address economic challenges and continue to work for regional peace and stability.

Jordan is a pivotal country in the region and a symbol of stability, and that safeguarding its security is in everyone's interest, he said, warning that any attempt to tamper with the Kingdom's security will have serious repercussions on the entire region and the interests of all.

Fayez also briefed the US team on His Majesty King Abdullah's relentless efforts to achieve stability in the region and restore the ceasefire in Gaza and resume humanitarian aid to the Strip.

The Senate head reiterated that the return of security and stability to the region can only be attained through the establishment of a Palestinian state, in line with the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.

He also reiterated Jordan's rejection of any solutions to the Palestinian issue at the expense of Jordan and its national interests, a firm position emphasized by His Majesty in his three "No's"; No to an alternative homeland, no to resettlement, and that the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem is a red line.
