Mafraq, April 23 (Petra) – Jordan has exported 185,000 head of local sheep to Gulf markets primarily Saudi Arabia since March 10, according to Abdullah Qudah, Director of the Mafraq Agriculture Department. Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Wednesday, Qudah noted that the figure is in line with average seasonal trends, as the annual export volume typically ranges between 400,000 and 500,000 head. He emphasized that the export process, which is conducted through several private quarantine facilities in addition to the main Surra Veterinary Quarantine Center, has played a key role in maintaining the steady pace of exports. These facilities adhere to the export requirements and health protocols necessary for the trade. Qudah highlighted the wide-reaching benefits of sheep exports, including supporting exporters in sustaining their operations in this vital sector, bolstering the transport and logistics industry, and contributing to national revenues. He also stressed that the exports have had no negative impact on local meat prices, helping ensure the sustainability of the livestock sector one of the country’s important economic pillars. //Petra// AF
