Amman, April 23 (Petra) – Senate President Faisal Fayez reaffirmed the strength of Jordanian-French relations, describing them as a strategic partnership built on mutual respect and shared interests between the two friendly nations. His remarks came during a meeting on Wednesday with the French-Jordanian Friendship Group from the French Senate and members of the the Liaison Group for Reflection and Solidarity with Christians, Minorities, and Kurds in the Middle East. The meeting was attended by several Jordanian senators, including Senate Assistant President Suheir Al Ali, and the French Ambassador to Jordan, Alexis Le Cour Grandmaison. Fayez noted the deep political coordination and cooperation between the two countries, particularly regarding regional and international issues. He emphasized the importance of strengthening economic, energy, water, and telecommunications cooperation and called for increased French investment in key sectors like tourism, public transportation, and renewable energy. He also highlighted the Senate’s commitment to expanding parliamentary relations with France, especially through friendship committees that play a crucial role in boosting bilateral ties across political, economic, and investment domains. Discussing the ongoing crises in the region, Fayez blamed continued instability on Israel’s occupation and aggression in Gaza, stressing the need for the international community to create a political pathway to end the war, allow humanitarian aid, and recognize a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He reiterated Jordan’s position, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in seeking a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue that aligns with Jordan’s national interests and long-standing principles. On interfaith harmony, Fayez praised Jordan’s inclusive social fabric, noting that Muslims and Christians are one family united by equal rights and duties. He commended His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership in promoting coexistence, citing initiatives such as the Amman Message, World Interfaith Harmony Week, and "A Common Word", which aim to foster global tolerance and dialogue between faiths. The French delegation expressed appreciation for the advanced level of Jordanian-French relations, particularly in the economic sphere. They stressed the importance of building further partnerships and praised France’s continued support for Jordan’s economic challenges. Members of the French Senate reaffirmed their country's commitment to a two-state solution and rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza plan. They also hailed Jordan’s role, under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership, as a pillar of stability in a volatile region and expressed admiration for the spirit of unity and tolerance among Jordan’s diverse religious communities. //Petra// AF
