15/ Tourist Train Launches in Mafraq to Promote Heritage, Domestic Tourism

Amman, April 24 (Petra) – The first tourist train journey in Mafraq Governorate is set to depart Saturday aboard the Jordan Hejaz Railway, in cooperation with the Rehab Municipality, as part of efforts to promote domestic tourism and revive Jordan's rich cultural heritage.

According to the Jordan-Hejaz Railway Corporation (JHR), the trip will begin with a traditional performance by a Mafraq folklore troupe, welcoming passengers and showcasing the region's cultural identity.

The itinerary includes field visits to historic churches and ancient mosaics, for which the town of Rehab is renowned. These mosaics are among the most prominent symbols of Jordan’s religious and cultural diversity.

A local bazaar will be held during the trip, featuring traditional foods and handcrafted products, providing visitors with an authentic cultural experience while supporting local artisans and communities.

Zahi Khalil, General Manager of the JHR, stated that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand tourist train operations and spotlight areas of historical and cultural significance across the Kingdom.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration with municipalities, local communities, and the private sector in creating distinctive tourism experiences and revitalizing railway stations as symbols of national heritage.

This trip marks the beginning of a series of tourism initiatives designed to reconnect Jordanians with their heritage and highlight the diverse landscapes and cultures within the country.
