7/ Anti-Narcotics Department Arrests 44 in Nationwide Drug Raids
Amman, April 24 (Petra) -- The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) has arrested 44 individuals, including several classified as highly dangerous, during 14 security operations targeting drug dealers, traffickers, and smugglers across various parts of the Kingdom. According to the Public Security Directorate’s spokesperson, the operations were conducted over the past few days as part of intensified efforts to combat drug-related crime. Authorities seized large quantities of narcotic substances and firearms during the raids. A major sweep in the capital Amman and the Central Badia region resulted in the arrest of 12 suspects, including two individuals identified as highly dangerous, with significant quantities of drugs and weapons found in their possession. In southern Amman, seven individuals involved in drug trafficking and promotion were arrested. A separate operation in Mafraq led to the arrest of five suspects, with one individual found carrying four kilograms of hashish. The department also foiled three smuggling attempts. In the first, a shipment was intercepted at the Jaber border crossing in coordination with the Jordan Customs Department and other security agencies. Authorities seized 800,000 narcotic pills and three firearms hidden in a cargo vehicle. Four individuals involved in the smuggling attempt were arrested. In the second case, four suspects were caught preparing to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic pills. Security forces tracked and raided a storage site in Amman, where 30,000 pills were found concealed in a hidden compartment of a cargo truck. The third case was uncovered in a remote desert area in Aqaba, where a suspect had stored 170,000 narcotic pills in preparation for smuggling. He was arrested at the scene. Additional operations included the arrest of a drug and weapons dealer in Central Badia, where authorities seized 44 slabs of hashish and nine firearms. In Southern Badia, two more suspects were detained with 22 slabs of hashish and a firearm. In Amman, a high-risk drug dealer was arrested following a raid on his vehicle and residence, where 70 slabs of hashish were recovered. Another dealer was arrested in a separate case, with six slabs of hashish, crystal meth, and various pills found at his home. Two more cases were reported in Aqaba. One suspect was apprehended with 27 slabs of hashish and a firearm in a remote area, while another was arrested with 18 slabs of hashish. In Ramtha, following reports of widespread distribution of synthetic cannabis, locally known as "Joker", a special team arrested a main distributor with three kilograms of the substance. Two additional suspects were arrested in a separate case with 14 slabs of hashish. In Zarqa, a drug trafficker was arrested following a raid during which he resisted security forces.
