Amman, April 26 (Petra) – At least 406 people were injured on Saturday when a massive explosion rocked Shahid Rajaee Port in Iran's southern city of Bandar Abbas, according to Iranian state media.

The incident was due to the explosion of several containers stored in the port's dock area, a crisis management official told Iranian state television, adding "we are currently evacuating the injured to nearby medical centers."

The television quoted Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Administration official Esmaeil Malekizadeh as saying the blast occurred in part of the port's dock area, and firefighters were working to put out the blaze.

The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that work at the port was suspended to extinguish the fire.
