Zarqa, Apr. 26 (Petra)- Hashemite University (HU) President Dr. Khaled Hiyari stressed the importance of PAN-Arab integration in higher education and unifying academic and research efforts at the Arab level, which would contribute to achieve "effective" cooperation among higher education institutions.

Hiyari underlined the need to adopt joint "strategic" plans to develop curricula and support applied scientific research that serves "sustainable" development in the Arab world.

Hiyari also called for expanding horizons of Arab universities' research and academic partnerships and strengthening academic and student exchange programs.

Hiyari made the remarks following his participation in the 57th General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities (AARU), which was recently held at International University for Science and Technology (IUST) in Kuwait.

In a statement issued on Saturday, he said the event was held to benefit from the Arab universities' "successful" experiences and meet global standards.

Additionally, Hiyari met with Dr. Barakat Hudaiban, the conference chair and IUST chief, to discuss areas of joint cooperation in various areas of interest to the two universities.
