Amman, April 27 (Petra) The death toll from the explosion at Bandar Abbas port in Iran's southern Hormozgan province has risen to 40, authorities reported on Sunday, with the number of injured reaching 900.

Hormozgan Governor Mohammad Ashouri told Iran’s ISNA news agency that identifying some of the victims has been challenging due to the severity of the explosion and the extent of the fire.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, visiting the blast site, stressed that the immediate priority is extinguishing the fire and preventing further damage.

Pezeshkian also called for an investigation into the cause of the incident and for the development of preventive measures for the future.

Authorities stated that the explosion occurred on Saturday at Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas, following a blast in several containers.
