16/ Jordan Museum Showcases Educational, Community Role at UNESCO Forum in China
Amman, April 28 (Petra) – Director General of the Jordan Museum, Ihab Amarin, participated in a High-level Forum for Museums organized by the UN cultural organization UNESCO in China, highlighting the museum’s evolving role as an educational and community platform. The forum, held April 23-26, addressed issues related to the museum sector, emphasizing museums as lifelong learning institutions, their expanded roles beyond preserving and presenting heritage, and the integration of digital technologies, the Jordan Museum said in a statement on Monday. Amarin took part in dialogue sessions that brought together international museum directors, heritage experts, and cultural leaders. He presented Jordan Museum’s experience as an educational and cultural platform targeting diverse audiences, including students and tourists, offering an immersive cultural experience that reflects Jordan’s contributions across different eras. He also outlined the museum’s innovative programs aimed at integrating students into Jordan’s cultural and creative narrative, strengthening national identity through engagement with historical achievements. Addressing the forum, Amarin discussed how the Jordan Museum aligns its exhibitions and scientific content with societal needs through highlighting challenges faced by humanity throughout history and how Jordanians innovatively overcame them. Examples included advancements in water harvesting, architecture, urban planning, arts, food industries, agricultural technology, and mineral extraction. Amarin further presented the museum's use of various tools and media such as exhibitions, lectures, conservation initiatives, cultural exchanges, training programs, and technical capacity building. He highlighted the museum’s achievements in utilizing modern digital technologies for museum display and interpretation. He also emphasized efforts to enhance accessibility for visitors with disabilities, particularly those with mobility and visual impairments, enabling them to engage with the museum’s exhibits through advanced technologies. //Petra// AO
