  32/ Princess Wijdan opens "Comics Week" in Amman

Amman, April 28 (Petra) HRH Princess Wijdan Al Hashemi, President of the Royal Society of Fine Arts, attended the opening ceremony of "Comics Week" on Monday evening at Sweifieh Village in Amman.

Now in its fifth edition, the event is held under the theme "Comics Without Borders," organized by the European Union and the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) cluster in Jordan.

Speaking at the opening, EU Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas said that Comics Week has become a solid cultural bridge between Jordan and the European Union. He noted the participation of the embassies of Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Greece, and Spain, as well as the French Cultural Center and the Italian "Dante Alighieri" Society.

"Through this event, we are exploring, alongside Jordanian artists and audiences, the power of visual storytelling," Chatzisavas said, adding, "This year’s theme, 'Comics Without Borders,' reminds us that art knows no barriers it speaks all languages and connects everyone."

He noted that 22 illustrators are participating in this edition 7 from Europe and 15 from Jordan and highlighted the "Amman Mural" competition organized in cooperation with the Greater Amman Municipality and Jotun Paints, which saw the participation of 40 artists and was won by Asmaa Abu Hadeed.

The event will feature workshops for all age groups led by professional artists, covering topics such as character design, comic storytelling techniques, and digital publishing.

Jessica Batshone, president of EUNIC Jordan, said that comics represent creative storytelling, adding that 250 students aged 11–14 from private schools will take part in the workshops.
