New York, April 29 (Petra) – United Nations Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres has offered his good offices to India and Pakistan in support of any efforts to de-escalate rising tensions between the two countries, the UN said on Tuesday.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Guterres held separate phone calls with Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif and Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

In the calls, the Secretary-General expressed deep concern over the growing tensions and emphasized the importance of avoiding confrontation, warning that escalation could have serious consequences.
