54/ Algeria urges immediate ceasefire in Gaza, warns of looming catastrophe
New York, April 29 (Petra) – Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ammar Benjamâa, on Tuesday called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, warning that time is running out to prevent further catastrophe. Speaking before the UN Security Council, Benjamâa said that despite the "tireless efforts of the UN Secretary-General to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people," the international community and the Council have failed to provide the necessary support to make a meaningful impact. He blamed the lack of collective action, absence of accountability, and double standards for emboldening the Israeli occupying power to act with complete impunity, calling the crisis in Gaza one of the worst humanitarian failures of our generation. Pakistan’s envoy, Aamir Khan (Asim Iftikhar Ahmad), echoed the concerns, describing the unfolding tragedy in Gaza as "unprecedented in scale and savagery." He said it was "not just a humanitarian crisis, but a systematic annihilation of a people and the erasure of a nation’s right to exist." Ahmad called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, full and unhindered humanitarian access, and a clear political horizon based on the establishment of a Palestinian state. //Petra// AF
