20/ PM: Reality points to ‘isolated, besieged Israel’ rather than illusion of ‘Greater Israel’

Amman, Aug. 19 (Petra) – Prime Minister Jafar Hassan said Tuesday that "the reality does not reflect the illusion of a so-called Greater Israel, but rather an outcast, isolated Israel besieged regionally and internationally as a result of its policies of brutality and extremism."

In talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in Amman, Hassan warned against proposals and visions aimed at perpetuating the war indefinitely similar to delusions of a so-called Greater Israel promoted by extremist politicians in Israel, noting that reality points to policies that only fuel hatred due to the ongoing massacres. He underlined that "the peoples of the region and the world will not forgive the massacres taking place."

The Prime Minister said the region is facing two competing projects: one that seeks sovereignty, stability, and prosperity for nations, and another that thrives on prolonging conflicts and wars. He reiterated Jordan’s condemnation of the continued Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory, calling for full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and an immediate halt to Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

Hassan also referred to the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, stressing Jordan’s unwavering support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability, and prosperity, and for the strengthening of its state institutions. He affirmed that Jordan "fully believes in Lebanon and the capabilities of its people and will not hesitate to support them."

Turning to Palestine, Hassan called for intensified efforts to end the war on Gaza, the escalating Israeli attacks in the West Bank, and the wider regional escalation. He said Israel bears full legal and humanitarian responsibility for the collapse of the relief system in Gaza, adding: "We are facing a tragedy we witness daily in Gaza, where starvation, killing, and massacres are taking place. All crossings must be opened immediately to allow aid to reach our people and children in Gaza."

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed Jordan’s internal path of modernization while underscoring its regional role in supporting Lebanon and Syria to consolidate sovereignty, build institutions, and strengthen internal resilience. He stressed that such efforts are essential to advancing Arab cooperation and maximizing the potential of peoples across the region.

On bilateral relations, Hassan called for reactivating the Jordanian-Lebanese Joint Higher Committee, which has been suspended for nearly a decade, noting that its upcoming meetings will advance cooperation and agreements across various fields.

For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Salam expressed appreciation for Jordan’s steadfast support to Lebanon under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, describing Jordan’s positions as historic, strategic, and valued by Lebanon’s leadership, government, and people.

He highlighted Jordan’s backing of Lebanese institutions, particularly the Lebanese Army, and stressed that Lebanon needs Jordan’s voice and efforts during these critical times. Salam emphasized the strategic nature of Jordanian-Lebanese relations and their alignment on regional issues, especially the Palestinian cause.

He also pointed to Israel’s increasing isolation due to its massacres in Gaza, escalation in the West Bank, and extremist rhetoric surrounding the so-called "Greater Israel." He reaffirmed Lebanon’s support for the Arab Peace Initiative, stressing that the two-state solution remains the only realistic path to resolving the Palestinian issue.
