34/ Italy’s FM says Netanyahu ignoring demands of half the world on Gaza
Amman, Aug 19 (Petra) – Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Tuesday called for a ceasefire and an end to massacres in Gaza and the Middle East. According to Aki News, Tajani told the Il Giornale that Israel’s government "long ago crossed the red line of a legitimate and proportionate response to the October 7 attack." Tajani, who also serves as deputy prime minister, said, "We are against the invasion of Gaza and the occupation of parts of the West Bank through settlements, as well as the attacks on Christians," adding that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was "ignoring the demands of half the world on this issue." Asked about reports that Israel was negotiating with Libya, Syria and South Sudan to transfer Gaza residents there, Tajani said, "This is unacceptable." He added that Italy’s goal was the establishment of a Palestinian state and that his country was ready to send troops under a UN mission led by Arab states to help build it. //Petra// AF
