16/ Labour minister stresses need to equip youth with market skills in Ma’an

Ma’an, Aug 23 (Petra) – Labour Minister Khaled Bakkar on Saturday underlined the importance of empowering young men and women across Jordan’s governorates by equipping them with the skills demanded by the labour market through the Vocational Training Corporation’s institutes and centers, while taking into account the particular characteristics and competitive advantages of each region.

During a tour of Ma’an Governorate and Al-Ash’ari Municipality, Bakkar said the labour market is in urgent need of skilled and trained Jordanian workers, which the Vocational Training Corporation is working to provide.

He noted that the ministry is considering establishing small-scale vocational training institutes in these areas to serve local communities, as well as identifying suitable sites for setting up production units or branches. He added that the ministry is also studying mechanisms to support graduates of the Vocational Training Corporation who wish to start their own businesses after completing the required training.

The minister said the ministry is working to strengthen links between job seekers and available opportunities in the labour market, while training and preparing youth through the Vocational Training Corporation in line with market needs. He pointed to the availability of financing windows to support young people seeking to launch their own projects through the Development and Employment Fund.

Bakkar also met MPs from the governorate and heads of municipal committees, in the presence of the ministry’s secretary general, Abdel Halim Doujan, and Vocational Training Corporation director general, Ahmad Gharaybeh, and listened to their demands regarding employment and training for the region’s youth.

For their part, MPs Hussein Krishan, Mohammad Al-Maraa’eh, Ibrahim Al-Humaidi, Yousef Al-Rawadieh and Mohammad Al-Mahamid stressed the need to provide training and qualification opportunities for young people in the governorate to secure genuine jobs, while emphasizing the importance of launching development projects near residential areas to facilitate their entry into the labour market.
