6/ Jordan participates in solar energy forum in Baghdad

Amman, August 23 (Petra) – A Jordanian industrial delegation participated last week in the Iraqi-Jordanian Business Forum, held in Baghdad under the theme: "Solar Energy: A Regional Partnership Towards a Sustainable Future."

In a statement issued on Saturday, Chairman of Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Fathi Jaghbir, said the event provided an "important" platform for discussing establishment of joint trade partnerships and complementary industries.

On the forum's sidelines, the Jordanian delegation held a series of talks with a number of Iraqi ministers and institutions involved in trade exchange activities.

Meeting with the Iraqi Minister of Industry and Minerals, Khaled Battal Najm, the delegation discussed issues aimed to enhance industrial and economic cooperation, mainly the law protecting Iraqi products and customs tariffs, as well as developments in the work of the two countries' joint committee.

The two sides agreed to hold a joint meeting to coordinate efforts and address issues on the economic agreement to serve common interests, mainly customs duties on some Jordanian products.

In another meeting, the delegation also discussed with Iraqi Minister of Trade Dr. Atheer Ghurairi ways to increase mutual trade exchange, remove obstacles for flow of goods, and encourage joint investments.

Jaghbir said Jordanian exports to Iraq, which amount to approximately $1 billion annually, are expected to increase amid ongoing coordination between the Jordanian government and the industrial sector.

Jaghbir noted the upcoming joint discussions would contribute to overcoming administrative and logistical obstacles, which would facilitate the expedited completion of the joint industrial zone project on the the two countries' border area.
