Amman, Aug. 24 (Petra) – The Jordanian-Russian Parliamentary Friendship Association, chaired by MP Abdul Hadi Brizat, on Sunday met with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom, Gleb Desyatnikov, to review prospects for parliamentary cooperation and ways to advance relations across multiple fields. Brizat underlined that parliamentary friendship associations in both countries serve as key instruments to strengthen ties and coordinate positions in international parliamentary forums, reflecting the depth of the decades-old Jordanian-Russian partnership, founded on mutual respect and constructive cooperation. He highlighted the historical relations between Jordan and Russia, noting that they enjoy the support of His Majesty King Abdullah II and President Vladimir Putin, and are witnessing steady development following the signing of a reciprocal visa waiver agreement and preparations for the upcoming session of the Jordanian-Russian Joint Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation in Moscow later this year. Representatives Issa Nassar, Ahmed Dawaima, and Hussein Krishan reaffirmed the strength of Jordanian-Russian relations, stressing the importance of expanding cooperation in education, particularly through Russian scholarships to Jordanians which have surpassed 1,500. They also emphasized opportunities for broader cultural, economic, investment, and tourism cooperation, as well as collaboration in technology, digital transformation, automation, and cybersecurity. The lawmakers underscored their support for His Majesty’s steadfast positions on regional issues, foremost the Palestinian cause, noting that Russia’s support for a just and comprehensive peace and its efforts toward securing a ceasefire in Gaza and delivering humanitarian aid are appreciated. They stressed the role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing mutual understanding and regional stability. For his part, Desyatnikov expressed Russia’s appreciation for its cooperation with Jordan, affirming his country’s commitment to deepening ties in all sectors and strengthening parliamentary relations. He conveyed Russia’s aspiration for His Majesty’s participation in the upcoming Russian-Arab Summit in October, which will include a meeting with President Putin. He noted that high-level visits and the visa waiver agreement have been instrumental in expanding cooperation, particularly in trade, tourism, and culture, and highlighted the alignment of Russian and Jordanian positions on regional and international issues, especially the Palestinian issue. //Petra// AJ
