16/ Lower House Speaker urges closer economic ties with Egypt

Amman, Aug 25 (Petra) – Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi on Monday welcomed in his office on Monday Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan, Mohammad Samir, at the end of his tour of duty in the Kingdom.

Safadi reaffirmed the deep-rooted Jordanian-Egyptian relations, stressing the need to further expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation "to achieve common interests and serve Arab causes."

The Lower House Chief emphasized Cairo's positions as an influential country in the region, stressing continued joint coordination to serve the Palestinian cause.

Jordan views the Palestinian issue as the Arab world's primary and central issue, Safadi reiterated, noting the Kingdom's custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The Egyptian envoy also stressed the solid ties with Jordan and a keenness on further developing cooperation at all levels.

He pointed to the importance of cooperation between the two countries' parliaments and coordination of positions to serve Arab issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, at various regional and international forums.
