19/ Jordan condemns Jewish settlers' breaches of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Amman, Aug 25 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Monday strongly condemned ongoing incursions by Jewish settlers and right-wing Israelis into Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif in occupied Jerusalem, where they carried out prayers and provocations, including blowing the shofar, a Torah ritual, under the protection of Israeli police.

The Ministry called the actions "a flagrant violation of the legal and historical status quo at the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif, a desecration of its sanctity, and unacceptable act of provocation."

The Ministry's official spokesperson Sufian Qudah warned of the consequences of the ongoing breaches, stressing that "their systematic continuation by extremists with the approval and facilitation of the Israeli occupation authorities is a dangerous sign of the extremist Israeli government's gambles against the stability and security of the region, and its violations of international law, international humanitarian law, and the historical and legal status quo in the city of Jerusalem and its holy sites."

Qudah reiterated that Israel has no sovereignty over the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif, reaffirming the Kingdom's categorical rejection and strong condemnation of the repeated incursions into the compound by extremist settlers and some Israeli officials.

He called these "a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and an attempt to impose facts on the ground by force in the Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem."

The entire Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, with its 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Waqf (endowments) and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department of the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is the legal entity with the exclusive jurisdiction to administer the affairs of the compound and regulate access to it, the spokesman said.
