  13/ Jordan, Uzbekistan release joint communiqué at conclusion of talks between King, Uzbekistan president

Samarkand/Uzbekistan, Aug. 26 (Petra) -- The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Uzbekistan issued a joint statement on Tuesday following expanded talks between His Majesty King Abdullah II and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the city of Samarkand.

Following is the full text of the statement:

"Joint Statement on Strengthening the Partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Samarkand, Uzbekistan
26 August 2025

1. At the invitation of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan conducted a State Visit to Uzbekistan on August 25–26, 2025.

2. The two leaders held constructive talks in an atmosphere of mutual trust and friendship, during which they reviewed ways to further develop bilateral relations, and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

3. The two leaders reaffirmed their determination to strengthen the historic ties of friendship between the two countries. They agreed to further deepen relations across the political, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian spheres to the mutual benefit of both countries and peoples.

4. The two leaders agreed to intensify cooperation in a number of key sectors, including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, sustainable energy, and modern technologies.

5. The two leaders emphasised the importance of holding the first Uzbekistan-Jordan Business Forum soon and activating the work of the Uzbek-Jordanian Business Council to facilitate direct engagement between business communities.

6. His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Excellency President Mirziyoyev emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector, highlighting the potential of both countries as unique cultural and historical destinations. They agreed that both countries will work towards increasing tourist exchanges, promoting joint tourism programmes, and encouraging investments that enhance connectivity between them.

7. The two leaders also underscored the importance of cooperation in higher education, youth, sports, and cultural exchange programmes, recognising these as vital tools for strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of Uzbekistan and Jordan.

8. During the visit, the two countries signed a number of Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding, covering the following aspects:

Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments
Cooperation in Higher Education
Tourism Cooperation
Visa Exemption
Customs Cooperation
Agriculture and Food Safety
Air Services
Plant Protection and Quarantine
Awqaf and Islamic Affairs
Judicial Extradition
Cooperation on Standardisation, Metrology, and Conformity Assessment
Animal Health and Veterinary Medicine

9. The two leaders underscored the importance of such increased cooperation in supporting their development and economic objectives as articulated in Uzbekistan’s "Uzbekistan-2030" Strategy and Jordan’s "Economic Modernisation Vision."

10. His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Excellency President Mirziyoyev called for immediately stopping the war on Gaza, and ending the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people. They urged the immediate opening of all crossing points for the delivery of aid to the Strip and its distribution by UN agencies. The two leaders stressed the indispensable role of UNRWA in providing humanitarian assistance and protection to the Palestinian people in Gaza and its other areas of operation. They called for increasing political and financial support for UNRWA.

11. They stressed that the establishment of a sovereign, independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the basis of the two-state solution, and in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, which was also endorsed by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, is the only path to just and lasting peace in the Middle East. The two leaders urged immediate international action against illegal Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution, including settlement activities. They stressed the need for respecting the historical and legal status quo at Muslim and Christians holy sites in East Jerusalem.

12. His Excellency President Mirziyoyev commended Jordan’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, through continued delivery of aid by land and air, and through operating field hospitals. His Excellency affirmed Uzbekistan’s readiness to cooperate with Jordan to provide urgently needed assistance to Gaza. His Majesty King Abdullah II recognised the principled stand of Uzbekistan in support of the two-state solution, and valued the humanitarian assistance provided by Uzbekistan to Gaza, including through medical treatment of Palestinians from Gaza in Uzbekistan.

13. The two leaders emphasised the need to maintain the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem’s Muslim and Christian Holy Sites. President Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of the historical Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

14. His Excellency President Mirziyoyev highlighted Jordan’s global leadership in promoting the values of tolerance, moderation, and interfaith dialogue, including through initiatives such as the Amman Message, A Common Word, the World Interfaith Harmony Week, and the efforts of Al al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought.

15. His Majesty King Abdullah II recognised the key role of His Excellency President Mirziyoyev in creating a new political atmosphere in Central Asia, characterised by mutual trust, solidarity, respect, good neighbourliness, and strategic partnership.

16. The two leaders emphasized the importance of efforts aimed at facilitating the transformation of Afghanistan into a peaceful, prosperous and stable country.

17. The two leaders reiterated their commitment to continued coordination and mutual support within the framework of the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and other multilateral fora to advance peace, security, and sustainable development.

18. His Majesty King Abdullah II thanked His Excellency President Mirziyoyev for the warm welcome and hospitality. The two leaders agreed to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, with the next official meeting to be agreed upon through diplomatic channels.
