Amman, Aug. 26 (Petra) -- Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, Chairman of the Royal Film Commission, the Australian Embassy in Amman premiered its documentary "Australia and the Great Arab Revolt – The 1918 Campaign: A Partnership Forged Under Fire" during a special screening at the Royal Film Commission on Monday evening.

The event, attended by senior officials, members of the royal family, diplomats, and representatives from Jordanian and Australian institutions, celebrated the deep and enduring ties between the two nations, ties that trace their origins back to the Hashemite-led Great Arab Revolt of 1918.

The documentary chronicles the early partnership forged during the Great Arab Revolt, when Australian mounted infantry, the Australian Flying Corps, and other units supported Hashemite forces in their campaign across Jordanian territories. Their contribution was instrumental to the success of the revolt and the eventual foundation of the modern Jordanian state.

Speaking at the premiere, Australian Ambassador Bernard Lynch highlighted the significance of the moment: "This documentary is a testament to the historical bonds between Australia and Jordan, bonds that began over a century ago under extraordinary circumstances and continue to thrive today," he said.


Over the past five decades, Australia and Jordan have expanded their partnership well beyond defense and security. The relationship now spans a wide range of sectors, including diplomacy, trade, technology, water management, agriculture, education, and cultural exchange, underpinned by strong people-to-people connections.

Australia’s academic institutions have played a key role in supporting Jordan’s archaeological research and preservation efforts, particularly in the restoration of the ancient city of Jerash and ongoing excavations at Pella.


Australia has also been a steadfast humanitarian partner to Jordan, supporting its generous hosting of Syrian refugees and contributing to its humanitarian efforts toward Gaza. Both countries continue to work closely on fostering peace and stability in the Middle East and globally.

Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Matt Thistlethwaite, conveyed his message through a recorded statement, expressing pride in the documentary and reaffirming Australia’s commitment to its partnership with Jordan: "As we mark 50 years of official diplomatic relations, this film is not only a reflection of our shared history but also of the enduring friendship and cooperation that define our partnership today."


The release of "Forged Under Fire" coincides with the 50th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between Australia and Jordan, offering a timely reflection on a partnership that continues to evolve and strengthen, rooted in mutual respect, shared history, and a forward-looking vision for collaboration.
