3/ National Exports to GAFTA Rise 16.9% in First Half of 2025

Amman, Aug. 27 (Petra) -- Jordan’s national exports to countries within the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) recorded a 16.9% increase during the first half of 2025, reaching JD 1.851 billion, compared with JD 1.583 billion during the same period last year. This performance solidifies the region as Jordan’s leading trade partner.

According to data from the Department of Statistics, exports to GAFTA countries accounted for 42.3% of Jordan’s total exports during the first six months of the year.

Imports from the GAFTA also saw an upswing, rising by 10.5% to JD 2.598 billion, up from JD 2.352 billion in the corresponding period of 2024. As a result, the trade deficit with the bloc narrowed slightly to JD 747 million, compared with JD 769 million during the same period last year.

Saudi Arabia maintained its position as Jordan’s largest trading partner within the bloc, with exports to the Kingdom reaching JD 612 million, followed by Iraq at JD 431 million. Saudi Arabia also remained Jordan’s primary import source, supplying goods worth JD 1.4 billion during the period.

The Greater Arab Free Trade Area, an economic alliance aimed at enhancing economic integration and promoting low-tariff trade among Arab nations, was officially launched in January 2005. The bloc currently includes 18 member states.
