8/ Trade Unions Federation Launches Training Program to Build Skilled Cadres

Amman, Dec. 1 (Petra) -- The General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, in cooperation with the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation, has launched a four-day training program designed to prepare qualified trade union trainers from unions across various sectors.

According to a federation statement issued Monday, the program aims to build capable union cadres who can transfer knowledge and skills within workplaces, thereby strengthening trade union effectiveness and advancing the role of unions in protecting workers’ rights.

Federation President Khaled Fanatseh underlined the importance of the program in supporting the Federation’s strategic plan to institutionalize trade union training. He said the initiative represents a strategic step toward developing professional trainers who can disseminate skills and expertise within their respective institutions, reinforcing the role of unions in advocating for workers.

Fanatseh added that the recently launched Trade Union Training Manual now serves as an official reference, and the program equips participants with practical training skills aligned with the manual’s guidance. He also commended the longstanding partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, noting its key role in supporting trade union development and promoting justice, rights, and decent work.

Friedrich Ebert Foundation Director Sven Schwersensky said the program forms the first phase of a broader campaign to educate union members and raise awareness of labor law, union roles, and their importance in the labor market. He expressed hope that the manual will serve as a central reference for trainers and contribute to building a more effective working environment for union members and all workers in Jordan.

He praised the cooperation between the Foundation and the Federation in producing the manual, describing it as a joint effort that brought together specialists in labor unions and workers’ training.

The program covers four core themes: workers’ rights, focusing on legislation and international standards; collective bargaining, aimed at enhancing negotiation and conflict-resolution skills; expanding union membership to support organizational sustainability; and managing union campaigns through effective planning and implementation.
