38/ UK Ambassador Discusses Capital-Market Cooperation During Visit to ASE
Amman, Dec. 10 (Petra) UK Ambassador to Jordan Philip Hall discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise with the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) and Jordan’s capital-market institutions during a visit to the exchange on Wednesday, accompanied by London Stock Exchange (LSE) Head of Primary Markets for the Middle East and Africa Abi Ajayi and the accompanying delegation. The two sides reviewed mechanisms to promote the ASE and encourage investors in the United Kingdom to take advantage of available investment opportunities in the Jordanian market. ASE Chairman Ghassan Omet emphasized the depth of cooperation between the Amman Stock Exchange, Jordan’s capital-market institutions, and the London Stock Exchange, stressing the importance of maintaining this cooperation and continuing the exchange of expertise to serve the interests of the two friendly countries. Ambassador Hall highlighted the strength of Jordanian-British relations across various fields, affirming his commitment to enhancing joint cooperation prospects and expanding knowledge-sharing between the LSE, ASE and Jordanian capital-market institutions. ASE Chief Executive Officer Mazen Wathaifi presented an overview of the exchange’s performance this year, noting that it recorded a noticeable improvement in key indicators, supported by positive net-profit results of listed companies as well as positive macroeconomic, financial and monetary stability indicators. He referred to recent government decisions that directly impacted the market, including exempting mutual funds from income tax, reducing trading commissions, and allowing non-Jordanian investors to move their investments within the exchange, along with the ASE’s efforts to develop legislation, expand digital services and apply advanced global standards to enhance its competitiveness and investment appeal. Securities Depository Center (SDC) CEO Sara Tarawneh gave a brief overview of the center’s functions, particularly settlement procedures, and explained the settlement model adopted by the center, which aligns with leading international standards applied in global financial markets. //Petra// AF
