16/ UN Says Heavy Rains Hit Gaza Displacement Sites, Calls for Lifting Aid Restrictions

Amman, Dec 13 (Petra)- UN Secretary-General spokesperson Farhan Haq said more than 140,000 people were affected after heavy rains flooded more than 200 displacement sites in the Gaza Strip, stressing the need to lift restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid and to remove the ban on the work of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) spokesperson in Palestine Jonathan Crickx underscored the urgent need to bring more aid into Gaza, calling for increased deliveries of clothing and tents and for mobilizing international support to confront worsening humanitarian consequences.

His remarks came after 14 people, including six children, were reported killed due to extreme cold, in addition to the collapse of more than 15 homes in various parts of Gaza City as a result of the rains.
