8/ PM Orders Immediate Suspension of Heaters Linked to Fatal Incidents

Amman, Dec. 14 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Jafar Hassan has ordered immediate measures to halt the sale of heating appliances linked to recent cases of death and carbon monoxide suffocation, directing authorities to withdraw the products from the market pending the outcome of technical investigations.

The directive was issued during an emergency meeting held on Saturday, attended by senior government officials and security chiefs, including the ministers of Industry, Trade and Supply, Interior, and Government Communication, as well as the Director of Public Security and the Director General of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization.

The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, and security agencies to take immediate enforcement action to prevent further distribution of the heaters until safety assessments and technical findings are completed.

Hassan also ordered that legal proceedings be initiated against any party found to have violated the law or failed to meet regulatory obligations, with cases to be referred to the Public Prosecutor.

He stressed the importance of strengthening oversight mechanisms to ensure the safety and reliability of heating appliances, particularly during the winter season, and called for a comprehensive review of compliance procedures related to national standards and technical specifications.
