8/ IEC, EU Discuss Expanding Cooperation on Democratic Support
Amman, Dec. 15 (Petra) -- The Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the European Union on Monday held talks on strengthening bilateral cooperation, with a focus on supporting Jordan’s democratic process and expanding the exchange of institutional expertise. According to a statement issued by the IEC, the discussions took place during a meeting between IEC Chairman Mousa Al-Maaytah and EU Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe at the Commission’s headquarters, attended by IEC Deputy Chair Angela Martini. Al-Maaytah underscored the importance of continued engagement with international partners in advancing democratic governance, commending the European Union’s sustained support for Jordan. He noted that this cooperation reflects the strategic partnership between Jordan and the EU, which enjoys the special attention and support of His Majesty King Abdullah II. The EU Ambassador, in turn, praised the role of the Independent Election Commission in strengthening Jordan’s democratic institutions and affirmed the European Union’s commitment to ongoing support for Jordan and its national institutions, within the framework of a partnership grounded in mutual respect and shared interests. //Petra// RZ
