45/ House Palestine Committee Condemns Israeli Move Targeting UNRWA, Al-Buraq Visit
Amman, Dec. 16 (Petra)- The Palestine Committee at the Lower House of Parliament said that the approval by the Israeli Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of a draft law targeting the work and presence of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) constitutes a blatant act of aggression and an attempt to liquidate the refugee issue, a flagrant violation of international law, and an open challenge to all humanitarian values and conventions, amid what it described as suspicious international silence that cannot be justified or accepted. The committee also condemned the storming of the Al-Buraq Wall site by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stressing that the move represents a direct assault on Islamic holy sites and a deliberate provocation of the feelings of Muslims and Arabs. Committee Chairman MP Suleiman Al-Saud said the act reflects the occupation’s mindset based on religious extremism and the imposition of fait accompli by force, embodying racist settlement policies that pose a serious threat to security and stability across the entire region. Al-Saud added that these actions fall within a systematic escalation aimed at igniting the region and perpetuating a cycle of violence and instability, holding the occupation fully responsible for the consequences of these grave violations. He called on the international community to break its silence, shoulder its legal and humanitarian responsibilities, and take firm and immediate action to halt these aggressive policies. The committee warned that the continuation of such practices risks an imminent explosion of the situation, stressing that the international community must meet its moral and legal obligations without equivocation to compel Israel to stop its escalation and halt incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound before it is too late in order to safeguard regional peace and security and uphold international legitimacy, which the occupation no longer appears to respect. //Petra// AF
