11/ Jordan Assumes Presidency of Arab Ministers for Social Affairs Council

Amman, Dec. 18 (Petra) – Jordan on Thursday assumed the presidency of the 45th session of the Council of Arab Ministers for Social Affairs, succeeding the Kingdom of Bahrain, which chaired the previous session.

In her address, Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa said the escalating challenges facing the Palestinian people, and the resulting severe social and humanitarian conditions, require comprehensive and multi-level social and humanitarian interventions.

She stressed the need to enhance coordination and integrated action within the framework of joint Arab cooperation to alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable groups, particularly children, women, older persons, and persons with disabilities, while preserving human dignity and strengthening resilience and recovery in the State of Palestine.

She added that the difficult humanitarian and social conditions in several Arab countries affected by crises, conflicts, and worsening economic and humanitarian circumstances call for intensified joint efforts and closer cooperation with regional and international partners. Such cooperation, she said, would ensure more effective social responses, reinforce social stability, and support recovery and development efforts.

Bani Mustafa said Jordan looks forward to the adoption of the Amman Declaration and its submission to the upcoming Arab Summit to secure political support at the highest decision-making levels within the Arab League, thereby strengthening plans and programs aimed at serving Arab citizens.

She noted that the session’s agenda includes a number of items and draft resolutions reflecting Arab aspirations for sustainable development and the consolidation of social justice. In this context, she called for strengthening the capacities of the Arab Center for Social Policy Studies and Poverty Eradication, which is hosted by Jordan, noting that all logistical requirements have been provided to enable the center to begin its work. She also stressed the importance of member states continuing to ratify the center’s statute.
