24/ UNRWA: 235,000 Palestinian Gazans affected by extreme weather in enclave
Amman, December 29 (Petra) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that 235,000 people in Gaza have been affected by the storm, which has caused buildings to collapse and tents to be damaged. In a post published Monday on its official X account, the agency explained that "months of war and displacement have forced people in the Gaza Strip to live amidst crumbling rubble, in makeshift shelters or dilapidated tents." It stated that 17 buildings collapsed completely due to the prevailing weather conditions in the region, while more than 42,000 tents or temporary shelters suffered partial or total damage, affecting at least 235,000 people, according to data from the Gaza Shelter Cluster, which includes UN agencies and non-governmental organisations. Since the onset of the storms in the Gaza Strip this December, 18 Palestinians, including 4 children, have died, while about 90% of the shelters for displaced people whose homes were destroyed by Israel have been flooded, according to UNRWA. //Petra// AK
