33/ Death toll from southern Spain floods rises to three as heavy rains persist
Amman, Dec. 29 (Petra) - Spanish authorities announced on Monday that two men were killed in floods caused by heavy rainfall in the south of the country, raising the total death toll to three. The mayor of Alhaurin said in statements to local television that the water swept away the victims, who were a 20-year-old young man and two others in their fifties. The town declared Tuesday a day of official mourning and canceled all public events. Spain has been significantly affected by climate change in recent years, leading to longer heatwaves and frequent episodes of heavy rain. The country witnessed major floods in October 2024 that left more than 230 dead, the majority of whom were in the east of the country. //Petra// AF
