26/ Jordan 'committed' to developing green hydrogen industry, says energy minister

Amman, Feb.26 (Petra) - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, affirmed Jordan's "commitment" to developing the green hydrogen industry.

Kharabsheh added that Jordan aspires to become a "global" center for green energy, with a focus on enhancing "competitiveness" of green hydrogen production and reducing the cost of green ammonia production.

The minister's remarks came during the 4th roundtable held Wednesday to present final results of the comprehensive study on the joint infrastructure business model for green hydrogen projects, in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a number of partners.

To date, he said some companies working with the government in the green hydrogen field have reached "advanced" stages.

The minister stated the government is currently working to identify the type of incentives that could be provided to investors to facilitate their operations and achieve the desired mutual benefits.

The government, he noted, is working to develop an "integrated" regulatory framework to support investments in this field.

Kharabsheh also hoped the participants would agree on mechanisms that would reduce cost of producing green ammonia to become "more competitive" globally.

Kharabsheh said this effort aligns with the Green Hydrogen Strategy that aims to promote Jordan as a "major" center for green energy production, focusing both local consumption and export.

Meanwhile, Minister of Investment, Muthanna Gharabiyeh, remarked local manufacturing would be a "key" element in the investment strategy, noting the government is working to establish an "integrated" economic zone to support production chains for renewable energy.
