Amman, June 11 (Petra) -- Jordan condemned on Wednesday the Israeli shelling of the Jordanian field hospital in southern Gaza, which injured of a Jordanian nurse, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. The Jordanian government regards this act as a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, including the 1949 Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, according to a Ministry statement. Jordan holds Israel fully responsible for the safety of civilians and medical personnel operating at the hospital, Ministry spokesperson Sufian Qudah said, denouncing the Israeli attack as an "unacceptable crime." Qudah said the Israeli attack is part of a series of war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces in Gaza, which include systematic targeting of hospitals, medical staff and innocent civilians. He highlighted that the attack underscores the ongoing policy of starvation and blockade imposed on Gaza. He reaffirmed that the Jordanian government holds the Israeli occupation forces entirely accountable for jeopardising the lives of Jordanian medical personnel and civilians alike. Qudah called on Israel to adhere to its obligations under international law, particularly international humanitarian law. He urged Israel to cease attacks on hospitals and other protected sites and to refrain from measures that hinder medical personnel from performing their duties. The spokesperson appealed to the international community to take a firm and urgent stance to halt Israeli military actions that threaten civilians, civilian infrastructure and hospitals in Gaza. He called for the immediate and unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, which is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis caused by ongoing aggression. //Petra// AK
