24/ Jordan and EFTA Sign Agreement to Update Free Trade Pact

Geneva, June 11 (Petra) -- Jordan's Permanent Representative the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva Akram Harahsheh and the ambassadors of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member countries signed amendments to the existing Free Trade Agreement between Jordan and EFTA.

The amendments aim to modernise and update the agreement with EFTA member countries - Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Norway. It initially came into force in September 2002 to boost trade exchanges and economic opportunities between Jordan and EFTA countries.

The updates reflect recent developments within the Euro-Mediterranean Free Trade Area framework and ensure that the agreement's rules remain dynamic and aligned with more trade-friendly standards.

The revisions are designed to foster economic growth and prosperity for all parties involved.

Three bilateral agreements related to agriculture were signed between Jordan, Norway, Switzerland and Iceland. The agreements are part of Jordan's efforts to strengthen its economic and trade relations with international partners and to expand opportunities for Jordanian exports in European markets.
