23/ Social Development Ministry refers case of individuals covering property of dissolved Muslim Brotherhood to attorney general

Amman, June 14 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD's) Committee for Dissolving the Dissolved Muslim Brotherhood Association announced that it has referred a case involving individuals covering up and retaining property belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood to the Attorney General.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the committee stated that following the expiry of the grace period granted by the ministry for individuals to settle their status, the Attorney General was contacted to take legal action against those proven by the Dissolution Committee to have failed to declare properties registered in their names and owned by the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood.

The committee indicated that it had received information about the existence of 77 plots of land registered in the names of individuals but owned by the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood. The Attorney General was advised to initiate legal proceedings, in accordance with the regulations.

The Dissolution Committee received ownership registration documents for 31 plots of land registered under the names of leaders of the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood, including documents confirming these properties belonged to the organisation.

The Attorney General was instructed to take the necessary legal measures.

The committee noted that some individuals had acknowledged the existence of a bank account belonging to the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood, registered in the names of three individuals. Two of them confirmed ownership to the committee, while the third did not respond.

The account's value is estimated at JOD170,000, based on a lawsuit filed against the account holders by an entity that is not recognised as the legal successor to the dissolved organisation. The Attorney General was advised to pursue legal action in this matter.

Furthermore, the committee announced that it had contacted the Director General of the Department of Lands and Survey to transfer ownership of three land plots in Jerash, Madaba and Irbid governorates to the MoSD's Associations Support Fund.

The properties were transferred from the organisation to the Fund. The committee indicated that it had instructed the department to transfer ownership of additional lands, including properties registered in the names of the "Muslim Brotherhood," the "Muslim Brotherhood Association," or the "President of the Muslim Brotherhood Association," as well as properties registered in the name of the organisation's leader.

Of these, ownership of eight plots was transferred to the MoSD's Associations Support Fund following a Court of Cassation ruling determining that the organisation is not the legal successor to the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood.

The committee further reported that the Director General of the Lands and Survey Department was instructed to place a prohibition on disposal or impose precautionary measures on certain properties and land plots owned by the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood.

Following a public notice issued on May 15, 2025, inviting individuals who possess movable or immovable assets belonging to the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood or whose ownership has been transferred to them to come forward, the committee received requests for rent payments and eviction notices from landlords.

The committee noted that two sites had been leased to the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood. Accordingly, the landlord demanded payment of 82,404,950 Egyptian pounds in overdue rent for properties previously leased by the organisation.

The same landlord reported that a HQ belonging to the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood, specifically the Bayader Wadi Al-Seer/Khirbet Sara branch, was located on the site.

After inspection, it was found that the HQ was shared with a political party. An inventory of the HQ's assets was conducted and a report was produced.

The Dissolution Committee had warned individuals holding property belonging to the organisation that they could face prosecution on charges of money laundering and other offenses.
