22/ UoJ advances in 2025 QS World University Rankings
Amman, March 12 (Petra) – The University of Jordan (UoJ) enhanced its global academic standing making notable progress in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, one of the most influential rankings for evaluating academic programs worldwide, issued annually by the British Foundation in Quantity Surveying QS. The university entered the rankings in 25 specific disciplines, an increase of six from last year, in addition to improving the rankings of 16 previously ranked disciplines and all five ranked scientific fields, reflecting the development in the quality of its academic and research programs. The results showed the university achieved unprecedented rankings in disciplines such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, computer science and information systems, engineering, mathematics, tourism, education, library and information science, business, and languages, reflecting academic excellence and regional leadership in these spheres. At the level of globally ranked scientific fields, the university made tangible progress, with engineering and technology rising to 150th place globally, compared to 253rd place in 2024. Social sciences and management sciences also jumped to 155th place globally, up from 227th place last year. In the field of Arts and Humanities, the university advanced to 190th place globally, up from 347th. Meanwhile, Life Sciences and Medicine improved, moving to 284th place, up from 401-450th. Natural Sciences also rose to 401-450th place globally, up from 501-550th. The university made significant achievements in the ranking of academic disciplines, with one of its programs ranked among the top 50 universities in the world, four disciplines ranked among the top 100, nine were among the top 200, 17 were among the top 300, 19 among the top 400, and 23 among the top 500 universities globally. In arts and humanities, the university ranked 217th globally in linguistics, 231st in English, and 289th in modern languages. In social and management sciences, UoJ ranked 83rd globally in library and information science, 119th in tourism, and 147th in education. Development studies (147th) and law (367th) entered the rankings for the first time. In business, the university ranked 185th in accounting and finance, 234th in business and management, and 505th in economics. In engineering and technology, the university rose to 100th place in Computer Science and Information Systems, up from 149th last year. Civil Engineering ranked 229th, Electrical and Electronic Engineering 232nd, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering 291st, and Chemical Engineering 398th. In the field of life sciences and medicine, UoJ firmed up its global ranking to 47th in nursing, advancing from the 51-100 category in 2024. Pharmacy and Pharmacology ranked 100th globally. Human Medicine advanced to 285th place globally, while Life Sciences advanced to 481st. Agriculture ranked 429th globally. In natural sciences, mathematics jumped to 119th place globally, up from 201-250 last year. Chemistry also improved, ranking 439th. For the first time, environmental sciences and physics entered the global rankings, with the first ranked 500th and the second 601st. UoJ President Nazir Obeidat expressed his pride "in this achievement", which reflects the university's commitment to implementing its strategic vision of academic and research excellence and strengthening its position on the international stage. This advancement is the fruit of tireless efforts to develop educational programs, encourage scientific research and innovation, and create a supportive academic environment for faculty members and students, he said.
