32/ Jordan joins Qatar-hosted meeting with US President's Special Envoy to Middle East
Doha, March 12 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi participated on Wednesday in a meeting in Qatar that included key regional leaders and the US President's Special Envoy to the Middle East. Attendees included Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar; Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia; Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs; Khalifa Shaheen Al-Marar, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the UAE; Hussein Al-Sheikh, Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation; and Steve Witkoff, the US President's Special Envoy. The meeting focused on developments in Gaza and the broader region. A joint statement released during the meeting highlighted that the Arab ministers presented a Gaza reconstruction plan approved at the Arab Summit held in Cairo on March 4, 2025. They agreed to continue consultations and coordination with the US envoy to use this plan as a foundation for reconstruction efforts in Gaza. The statement emphasised the Arab ministers' commitment to reinforcing the ceasefire in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories. They stressed the necessity of launching a genuine effort to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution that fulfills the Palestinian people's aspirations for freedom and independence. The Arab ministers reaffirmed their dedication to ongoing dialogue that promotes calm and collaborative efforts to enhance security, stability and peace in the region through intensified diplomatic initiatives and coordination with various regional and international actors. Prior to the meeting, the Arab ministers convened a coordination session to discuss strategies for reinforcing the ceasefire in Gaza, preventing further deterioration in the occupied West Bank and working together to create viable prospects for achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. Safadi began his visit to Qatar with a meeting with Sheikh Mohammed, where they discussed strengthening ties and addressing regional issues. Safadi thanked Sheikh Mohammed for Qatar's role in hosting the Arab ministers' meeting with the US envoy.
