Amman, March 12 (Petra) -- European stocks opened higher on Wednesday, bolstered by optimism surrounding a potential ceasefire in Ukraine following Kyiv's agreement to a US proposal for a 30-day truce with Russia.

Danish company Zealand Pharma saw its shares rise after announcing a cooperation agreement with Swiss pharmaceutical firm Roche.

According to Bloomberg, the pan-European STOXX 600 index climbed 0.6%, recovering somewhat after a decline of 1.7% in the previous session, which was triggered by US President Donald Trump's announcement of increased tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum products.

Most sectors within the index recorded gains in early trading, with the European banking index leading the way, rising by 1.1%.
