26/ G7 calls for political horizon for Palestinians through negotiated solution

Amman, March 15 (Petra) – The Group of Seven (G7) emphasized the need for a political horizon for the Palestinian people, one that can be achieved through a negotiated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This solution should meet the legitimate needs and aspirations of both peoples and promote comprehensive peace, stability, and prosperity in the Middle East.

In a statement issued by the foreign ministers of the G7, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union’s High Representative, the group expressed deep concern over the increasing tensions and hostilities in the West Bank, calling for de-escalation.

The group reiterated its support for the resumption of unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza and a permanent ceasefire.

They also called for the release of all "hostages" held by Hamas in Gaza.

The G7 affirmed its readiness to engage with Arab partners on their proposals for a path forward, including reconstruction efforts in Gaza and achieving lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

The group expressed its support for the Syrian and Lebanese peoples as both countries move towards a future of peace and stability.

The G7 reaffirmed the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both states at this critical juncture, calling for a clear rejection of terrorism in Syria.

The group condemned the recent escalation of violence in Syria’s coastal areas, urging the protection of civilians and accountability for perpetrators of atrocities.

The G7 stressed the critical importance of the political process led by Syria, welcoming the interim Syrian government’s commitment to working with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to eliminate all remaining chemical weapons in the country.
