4/ Jordanian industry now enters 150 global markets-JCI

Amman, Mar. 15 (Petra) - Since the early days of the country's establishment, Jordanian industry has carved a national story of achievement, success, and excellence, moving from hand-made manufacturing operations in the 1920s to products that are currently sold across the world.

The industrial sector's products reach over 150 markets worldwide, contributes approximately 25% of the gross domestic product (GDP) and accounts for 90% of the Kingdom's national exports, according to a skateholder.

In remarks to "Petra," President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) Fathi Jaghbir, the Kingdom's industrial sector is "today one of the largest productive" sectors in the country, with a capacity of approximately JD18 billion in annual industrial production, as value added constitutes stand at about 46%.

Jaghbir added that the industrial sector has continued its development and now produces 1,500 Jordanian products across various activities and industrial sub-sectors in 22,000 industrial facilities, which employ over 268,000 workers, the majority of whom are Jordanians.

Jaghbir, who also heads the Amman Chamber of Industry, said development and "competitiveness" of Jordanian industry is confirmed as the manufacturing sector ranks first in the Middle East, in terms of value added, as per to World Economic Forum reports over the past few years.

According to Jaghbir, Jordanian industrial exports increased from approximately JD7 million in 1964 to JD7.7 billion last year, indicating the continued Royal support for the industrial sector to achieve self-reliance.

Jaghbir said: "Continuing the success story of Jordanian industry, the industrial sector has been placed at the top of the priorities of the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV), as a key driver of the Kingdom's comprehensive and sustainable economic growth and development."

Jaghbir noted the vision seeks to raise the sector's productivity from JD5.3 billion to JD11.1 billion by 2033.

On the EMV's other goals, he said the vision has identified other paths for Jordanian industry, as exports are set to increase from JD4.8 billion in 2021 to approximately JD19.8 billion by 2033.

Jaghbir stated the industrial sector will also account for "nearly a third" of the job opportunities targeted by the vision, estimated to reach 314,000 workers.
