31/ Drowsiness, fatigue increase risk of traffic accidents by 11 times, PSD study reveals
Amman, March 16 (Petra) – The Public Security Directorate (PSD) has warned of the dangers of single-vehicle accidents, which have recently increased due to distractions such as mobile phone use while driving, as well as loss of control caused by drowsiness, fatigue, and reduced focus. A traffic study revealed that sleeping three to four hours less than recommended per night increases the risk of traffic accidents by 11 times. Another study found that sleep deprivation is a leading cause of nearly a quarter of all road accidents, as even a few seconds of driver drowsiness can lead to collisions. The PSD urged drivers to stop driving when feeling drowsy, open windows for fresh air, and take adequate rest before resuming their journey to ensure their safety and that of others. //Petra// AF
