10/ Truck Traffic at Jaber Border Crossing Quadruples Since Start of Year
Amman, March 18 (Petra) – Truck traffic at the Jaber border crossing, linking Jordan and Syria, has witnessed a fourfold increase since the beginning of the year compared to the same period in 2024, driven by facilitative measures implemented by the Kingdom, according to the head of the Association of Owners of Clearing and Transport Companies, Dhaifallah Abu Aqouleh. Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Tuesday, Abu Aqouleh highlighted the surge in freight movement, particularly for trucks transporting goods between Syria and the Gulf states via Jordan, as well as shipments transiting through Aqaba. This increase has positively impacted the domestic trucking fleet and supporting economic sectors. Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 49,679 Jordanian and foreign trucks whether loaded, empty, or in transit have passed through the Jaber crossing, compared to 12,689 trucks during the same period last year. Abu Aqouleh praised the customs and security authorities at the Jaber Customs Center for their efficiency in processing and facilitating truck movements, noting ongoing coordination between the association and customs authorities to address any operational challenges. He also underscored the positive impact of Jordan’s decision to exempt Syrian trucks from fees and charges under a reciprocity agreement, which is expected to bolster trade and transport between Jordan, Syria, and other regional markets. The Cabinet had previously approved the exemption to standardize fees on Jordanian and Syrian trucks, reinforcing economic cooperation between the two countries. //Petra// AJ
