17/ MoU signed to develop Jordan's uranium sector
Amman, Mar. 18 (Petra) -General Manager of Jordan Uranium Mining Company (JUMCO), Dr. Mohammad Shunaq, and Chairman of Harmony Investment Company (HINCO) Group, Ahmad Abu Rub, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the mining sector. In press statements on Tuesday, Shunaq noted the memo aims to optimize the potential benefits of the Jordanian uranium project by studying ways to locally manufacture some chemicals used in uranium extraction processes. Shunaq added that the MoU also eyes to "comprehensively and effectively" use associated elements and other raw materials, which would contribute to achieving the project's strategic and development goals. The memo seeks to streamline cooperation and exchange expertise in the fields of mineral exploration and mining, resource estimation and extraction, employment services, engineering consulting, and natural resource management. Shunaq noted the memo represents an "important" step to strengthen "strategic" partnerships in the mining sector, which would contribute to developing industrial processes for uranium extraction and exploitation of natural resources in a "sustainable and economically viable" manner. Meanwhile, Abu Rub said HINCO will work to provide "detailed" geotechnical studies and a "comprehensive" analysis of mining projects, aimed to achieving the "best" ways to utilize natural resources and increase their economic feasibility. In a ceremony attended by Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC), Dr. Khaled Touqan, the partnership comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to support the Kingdom's mining and energy sector and promote investment in strategic projects that contribute to achieving "sustainable" development and strengthening the national economy. //Petra// AG
