Amman, March 18 (Petra) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, expressed his horror over the latest Israeli airstrikes and shelling in Gaza.

In a statement on Tuesday, Türk said, "I am appalled by the Israeli airstrikes and shelling on Gaza last night, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds, according to the Ministry of Health in the territory. This will only add tragedy to tragedy."

He emphasized that Israel’s use of additional military force will only worsen the suffering of the Palestinian people, who are already enduring catastrophic conditions.

"This nightmare must end immediately," he urged, calling for the unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained individuals.

Türk stressed that the war must come to a definitive end, urging all influential parties to do everything possible to achieve peace and prevent further civilian suffering.
