10/ National Exports Rise 11.7% in Q1 Amid Narrowing Trade Deficit
Amman, May 22 (Petra) – National exports grew by 11.7 percent in the first quarter of 2025, reaching JD2.093 billion compared to JD1.873 billion in the same period last year, according to a report released Thursday by the Department of Statistics. Total exports, which include domestic exports and re-exports, rose by 11.6 percent to JD2.306 billion, up from JD2.066 billion in the first quarter of 2024. Re-exports alone recorded a 10.4 percent increase, totaling JD213 million, compared to JD193 million last year. Meanwhile, imports increased by 6.6 percent, reaching JD4.679 billion during the first three months of the year, compared to JD4.389 billion in the same period of 2024. The export coverage ratio of imports improved to 49 percent, up from 47 percent last year, reflecting a modest narrowing of the trade deficit. For the month of March alone, total exports amounted to JD856 million, with domestic exports accounting for JD784 million and re-exports for JD72 million. Imports in March totaled JD1.614 billion. Compared to March 2024, total exports increased by 16 percent, domestic exports rose by 18.4 percent, and imports grew by 4.2 percent. However, re-exports declined by 5.3 percent. As a result, the monthly trade deficit contracted by 6.5 percent, with the coverage ratio improving to 53 percent from 48 percent the year before. //Petra// AO
