22/ Jordan Thwarts Largest Crystal Meth Smuggling Attempt in Years
Amman, May 22 (Petra) – The Public Security Directorate (PSD) announced on Wednesday that coordinated security and intelligence efforts have successfully foiled one of the largest crystal meth smuggling operations in years, uncovering a significant narcotics shipment hidden inside heavy machinery. According to the PSD’s spokesperson, the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), in collaboration with other security agencies, launched an extensive investigation after receiving intelligence that a foreign national was preparing to smuggle a substantial quantity of the deadly drug into Jordan. A joint operational team was formed to verify the intelligence and trace all leads, both domestic and international. Over several weeks, the team monitored the suspect’s movements, eventually confirming that he had entered Jordan specifically to carry out the smuggling operation. The suspect’s smuggling method involved concealing the narcotics within parts of heavy equipment, which were transported in a travel vehicle through the Karameh border crossing. Security forces tracked the vehicle until it reached the capital, where the suspect was arrested. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 45 kilograms of crystal meth concealed within components of the heavy machinery. The PSD emphasized that such operations reflect the ongoing commitment of Jordanian security forces to combat drug trafficking and safeguard national security. //Petra// AO
