  28/ FM, German counterpart discuss ties, region 

Amman, May 22 (Petra)-- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi, spoke with Johann Wadephul, the newly appointed German Foreign Minister, over the phone on Thursday to talk about the regional situation and how to strengthen the two nations' long-standing friendship.

In addition to congratulating Wadephul on taking over as German Foreign Minister, Safadi said he hoped to collaborate with Wadephul to promote collaboration between the two nations and support regional stability and peace initiatives.

Wadephul emphasized how much his nation values its cordial ties with the Kingdom and how it contributes to stability and security.

During His Majesty's visit to Germany on April 2 of last month, the two ministers stressed the significance of the discussions between German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and His Majesty King Abdullah II before his assumption of office. A common goal to increase bilateral cooperation and coordinate efforts to address regional challenges was evident in these discussions.

In their discussion of efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, the two ministers emphasized the significance of their success, the arrival of humanitarian aid, and coordinated efforts to begin a genuine and successful path to a just and comprehensive peace, of which Safadi stressed that the two-state solution is the only viable option.

Safadi underlined the necessity of coordinating all efforts in order to establish the exchange deal, bring about an immediate truce, and provide adequate relief to alleviate the humanitarian crisis brought on by the aggression.

The two ministers talked about the state of affairs in Syria and how crucial its peace and security are to the security and stability of the region and the world.

Safadi emphasized the importance of helping the Syrian government reconstruct Syria on principles that uphold its sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity while defending the rights of all of its people. In order to promote Syria's stability and reconstruction efforts, he hailed the European Union's move to relax sanctions on the country.

The two ministers decided to stay in touch and get together as soon as feasible.
